We changed,
I am left not knowing how to love you.
No solace in promises -
this is a good thing,
no joy in the future spun.
You swear distance brings us closer;
my heart
hungers for what was
and can no longer be tasted.

That must be a very parinful hunger
ReplyDeleteThe last stanza is the key. In my opinion, whoever said "distance makes the heart grow fonder" must have had a wonderful imagination, a very large phone bill (in the days of no cells), and a lot of books to keep him/her company! And maybe an unending supply of chardonnay!
ReplyDeleteWhilst the phrase may be true for some, in my own experience, one must be strong alone to be able to maintain a relationship that keeps a couple apart by distance.
DeleteThose last three lines are crushing.
ReplyDeleteAh, the pain of it, the divide and the slipping past each other.
