The Arthritic God
The Arthritic God
He is an old cat
languishing wrapped in sunshine,
well-fed, much loved.
His needs are dutifully met by others,
his wants all past paid.
Bed to box to buffet,
repeat.
Slowly.
His only desire -
Unattainable.
The ability to run after prey, and catch it.

Wrapped in sunshine and love.....the best life.

Nice one. :)
Most of us have owned/had/seen that cat, who is 15 and loved. This resonates as a metaphor for me as well. Being 78 and disabled, I dream of chasing after life.
ReplyDeleteWe's all bein dat cat soonerlater, eh? Awesome. Tanx.
ReplyDeleteThis a wonderful, somewhat heart wrenching poem. Age gets us all, I guess.
ReplyDeleteHeartwarming and heartbreaking... life operates that way.
ReplyDeleteWhat is juxtaposed against the memory of what was. This really is bittersweet.
ReplyDeleteSweet kitty! Hard to get old for anyone.
ReplyDelete'wrapped in sunshine' - wrapped in love too. Lucky cat.
ReplyDeleteSuch an endearing write but heartbreaking too!
ReplyDeleteThis could be my much-loved boy cat "wrapped in sunshine,
ReplyDeletewell-fed, much loved." He can still run, but he can't jump up. 💙
The description is spot-on. A purrfect decription of watching a dear furry friend/family member grow older. I really enjoyed this.
ReplyDeleteChris - the idea of the cat as a god is ingenious. I love this!
