PERSEVERANCE

Between sirens and sidewalks,
up through concrete cracks
a dandelion teaches algebra:
pressure plus patience equals bloom.

Roots read the fault lines,
drink the rust that flows,
and rewrite the city.

If a flower can split stone
to achieve its goals,
so can you.

  1. I love dandelions – and their algebra: ‘pressure plus patience equals bloom’! This is such a good philosophy, Chris:
‘If a flower can split stone
    to achieve its goals,
    so can you.’

    1. And the line “and rewrite the city.” So much power in those hopeful petals. Love it.

  4. So powerful. "Pressure plus patience equals bloom." Whether you meant it or not, I see this metaphorically to what is happening in Minneapolis and across the US now....if a flower can split stone and achieve its goals, so can millions of people demonstarting and saying ICE and this administration are wrong. We must have the patience to keep speaking out but, at the same time, waiting for November elections to cause change. Sadly, my coment here, shows how inundated my brain is with current news.

  6. Dandelions and algebra? I never would have put the two together. It's brilliant! "Pressure plus patience equals bloom" - Nice! Love the "you can too" ending. Nicely done!

  9. What they said; this quadrille is positively well said. Lots to admire in a dandelion, they are more than a pretty face.
