Come Out Tonight
COME OUT TONIGHT
The night’s out front, tapping its foot—
sulking that you’re late again.
Let me coax you with mischief,
trade yawns for spark-lit schemes.
I promise the dark won’t bite—
unless you count its charm.
Hurry—fun’s impatient,
I’ve already blamed you
for all this waiting.

This Quadrille (44 word poem) was coaxed into life by those night owls over at DVerse Poets Pub.

You just made me think of The Cat in the Hat. I would love for him to just show up at my doorstep one night and say let's go! Such a fun poem, Chris.
ReplyDeleteWhat an invite, luv that the juke box is there

What an invitation, Chris! I love the personification of night ‘tapping its foot’ and sulking, and the idea of being coaxed with mischief.
ReplyDeleteOh, how very enticing! Who could resist this tempting invitation?
ReplyDeleteLet's dance the night away!
ReplyDeleteSounds fun. Nicely done quadrille.
ReplyDeleteYour opening stanza is just brilliant. Wonderfully written.
ReplyDeleteMischief is sometimes the best thing to do.
ReplyDeleteAn alluring invitation!
ReplyDeleteI like the image of impatient night tapping its foot, but I'll not be coaxed out. A good night life is quiet time at home.
