Sunrise
Sunrise is not for the faint of heart.
Once sky
and your imagination
have reached the saturation point,
then the blaze
pierces horizon,
forcing you to look away,
pushing your eyes
anywhere else
but the majesty,
godlike
in its refusal
to be stared at.

This Quadrille (44 word poem) prompted by the morning glories over at DVerse Poets Pub.

A sun so bright we must look away. I so wished for it this past weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteA majesty beyond words--indeed not for the faint of heart.
ReplyDeleteSunrise is indeed not for the faint of heart, and your quadrille has captured that idea, Chris. I love the thought of sky and imagination working together towards the saturation point.
ReplyDeleteIndeed... sometimes it is simply too bright
ReplyDeletea much as we want to stare we do sometimes cannot

ReplyDeleteSunrise is not for the faint of heart.
Sometimes the light is too bright....in its pure delight
ReplyDeleteMost delightful poem. The opening line is MAJESTIC
ReplyDeleteSunrise on the Florida Atlantic Coast is my favorite place .... I love that you acknowledged its brightness, the need to turn away for a bit. Love this quadrille.
ReplyDeleteChris, what a fabulous opening line and your conclusion is stupendous.
ReplyDeleteChris, "forcing you to look away, / pushing your eyes / anywhere else" really strikes me. That moment seems to capture the overwhelming power of sunrise in such a visceral way.
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
David
