A Cherita
A CHERITA
Intoxicating,
tasty and sweet,
or sharp-edged and smoky.
Tastes mature,
and sampling has a limit,
but we all eventually find our favorite libation.
When we date, we add and subtract from an ideal
trading up, playing the field
as we grow into ourselves -
spoused and bound,
or roving according to appetite,
Interacting.

The Cherita is an interesting form, fully explained by those balanced yet boisterous folks over at DVerse Poets.

An interesting juxtaposition of libation and relation-ship...
ReplyDeleteI agree with Andrew, and you got the balance just right, Chris. I love the contrasts in ‘tasty and sweet, / or sharp-edged and smoky’, and ‘spoused and bound, / or roving according to appetite’.
ReplyDeleteAppetites bound and unbound - I wonder where the poet stands in this Cherita tale?!
ReplyDeleteA very clever cherita, Chris!

ReplyDeleteI love that finding and growing into ourselves. Our ideals change with experience.
ReplyDeleteA wine, a partner, a song — all a matter of taste. Liked this Chris.
ReplyDeleteI guess I don't need to comment again. 😊
ReplyDeleteA nice contrasting of issues in your double cherita
ReplyDeleteMuch♡love
Chris, I love how you connected the first with the second, as the two appetites parallel.
ReplyDeleteEvery comment I thought I'd make has been voiced above and so to repeat them will brand me as a plagiarist! Suffice it to say that this is a deliteful and clever poem.
ReplyDeleteA questioning Cherita! Cleverly done from both viewpoints ☺️
ReplyDeleteInteracting while intoxicated.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, can't argue with that. And nicely said!
