Scorch Marks
Scorch Marks
A man is known
by mistakes he’s made;
scorch marks left on other lives.
I've made mistakes so big
jumping off them would be suicide.
Looking in Life’s mirror,
I see my biggest mistake
gave me my greatest joy.
I love being your Dad.

Chris - these lines are amazing:
ReplyDelete"I've made mistakes so big

And I adore your ending too - totally out of left field for me! Wonderful.
Much love,

One of the paradoxes of life brought home in that final line. I didn't see it coming! And how wonderful for your child that you feel that way.
ReplyDeleteI love the surprise in this...God doesn't make mistakes ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my heart. I’ve made mistakes that big, too. There’s joy in all of them if we find it. Wonderful write.❤️

ReplyDeleteI love your quadrille, Chris, from a dad to a child, and I love that phrase ‘scorch marks left on other lives’. We should look in life’s mirror more often.
ReplyDeleteIf only we could all be truthful even if it hurts! Mistakes are not always mistakes...right! Love it.
ReplyDeleteThe mistakes I have made (81 years alive) are many. I enjoyed this immensely, Chris. Especially how you portrayed jumping from our mistakes, I would have perished decades ago.
ReplyDeleteThis is incredibly deep and poignant! 💙💙
ReplyDeleteWhat a great mistake to make.
