Remember
Remember
Remember, it is less important to get what you want
than it is to want what you ultimately get -
we really are slaves to our debt.
Remember, don't wish for eternity
if you cannot spend even one idle night -
spend your time wisely, it is finite.
Remember, tying happiness to objects
only leads to your great sorrow -
you own nothing, you can only borrow.
Remember, you can look inside for peace,
or you can seek it in faith in a heaven above -
The only place you will find it is in Love.
Remember, children equate your time with love
hoping that maybe they are worth yours -
and even a cracked jug still pours.
Remember, these truths make up a life,
there is no easy way to get around it -
Leave the campsite cleaner than you found it.

This poem is an anaphora (Greek: ἀναφορά, “carrying back”) a rhetorical device that consists of repeating a sequence of words at the beginnings of neighboring clauses, thereby lending them emphasis.
As usual, I was prompted by those folks over at DVerse, if I remember correctly.
I would love to know what you thought about this piece.

"Remember, tying happiness to objects only leads to your great sorrow,".. yes! Such a wise and powerful write ❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteI love every line of this. In addition to the anaphoras, the rhymes are beautiful, and each stanza is wise.

Wise words! Nicely crafted.
ReplyDeleteWords of wisdom from a poet I enjoy reading!!
ReplyDeleteWords to live by. I especially like "even a cracked jug still pours". Our ability to nurture and love can still find a way to thrive through our past traumas and imperfections.
ReplyDeleteSo much wisdom in your words... love the final word as a metaphor... campsites is what we should share.
ReplyDeleteChristopher, anaphora is your form and you've made it shine here.
ReplyDeleteThis is so very wise. Especially if the world is a campsite. I love the line about the cracked jug - reassuring for all those of us who are a little cracked.
ReplyDeleteSuch insights! If we all think like this, the world will be a better place to live in. Love it.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, very wise words - the cracked jug is a lovely line.
