SUSPICIONS CONFIRMED
Her scorn was her delight,
Her anger, nefarious -
Valiant was his temper,
Yet his position, precarious.
Words were faulty,
Vexing heart with chamber docile;
Bridging gaps and leaving holes
Between harmony and love’s apostle.
Benevolence has been avoided,
The status quo acquitted,
The proxy acquiesced,
Only then was guilt admitted.
She set her mind to theory
Preventing her soul access to grieve;
Divested of his husbandry
Before he packed his bags to leave.

Christopher, Thanks for sharing this rhetorically effective but sad entry in the annals of ungenerous lovers who only in their defeat can admit guilt. The clipped, stacatto rhythm and end rhymes seem to anticipate the blunt reckoning that occurs at the end.
ReplyDeleteSome strong emotions penned for the disappointment. This fittef the prompt so well

"divested of his husbandry" is a great line in the context of the poem.
ReplyDelete"Divested of his husbandry" sounds so final.
ReplyDeleteI love the brief lines leading up to the end.
