Boundaries

BOUNDARIES

The problem with boundaries
is that they have two sides.
Cross the line and you are
in here with me,
an invasion of the spirit
which makes us enemies.

Our weapons are ugly
as they all are;
unhealthy tendencies,
learned behaviors,
and knee-jerk reactions,
codes for languages
we were never taught.

But we build our lives
on one side or the other,
right or wrong
love or hate
safe or crazed
true or false,
and I no longer can tell
which side I am on.
