Dance at the Candy Store

DANCE AT THE CANDY STORE

Late one night, in a store where candies were arranged with care,
the lights were dim, the shelves were silent, no one was there.
When a moonbeam hit the wall the candy magically became aware,
they got a chance to sing and play, time to live, dance, and dare.

The Red Hots started dancing on a sugar plume,
while Chuckles chuckled in sweet citrus delight,
the band was Good & Plenty, they played a soft sweet tune,
Lifesavers frolicked in the window changing the light.

A Snickers snickered with nutty chocolatey cheers,
as he watched Milk Duds and Skittles boogie down,
Mike & Ike whispered their secrets into each others ears,
and the Kit Kats chased each other's tails around.

There were Dots conga dancing along the counter glass,
while Mr. Goodbar was trying to pick a lock to get away.
Heath was charming the Mary Janes as bold as brass,
the Three Musketeers were singing like drunks on Payday

Starbursts and Razzles put on a fruity variety show,
While left and right Twix tap-danced without feet, or shoes,
crazy Whoppers rolled around like mad, fast as they could go
trying so hard to knock over the tall Charleston Chews.

The Twizzlers twirled, while the Sweet Tarts cuddled Baby Ruth,
And the moonlight gifted the candy magic of the Milky Way,
magic that comes from the dreams of sugar loving youth,
Butterfinger warned that it was not going to be able to stay.

The moonlight shifted slowly, as it has a tendency to do,
and the treats all knew that the fun would soon be done.
They stopped for a bit enjoying the moment they’d been through–
then climbed back into their packages and waited for the sun.

  1. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this! I'm reminded of the dreams I used to have as a child (and I'm now closer to 80 than 70) of toys coming alive in a toy shop and my dolls dancing in my room as I slept. This is just perfect. I smiled all the way through!

SO MUCH I enjoyed here....these two lines really got a big grin! You've captured what is the essence I think, the personalities of the various sweet treats. Thanks SO much for taking the time to write to the prompt....It's truly fun AND fabulous!

  4. Chris, I hereby proclaim your sweet poem as the Confectionary Equivalent to 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. I could see you turning this into a children's book.
