Memento Mori Maze

MEMENTO MORI MAZE

Every corner I turn, I see
My end unfolding in front of me.

From the past I run away
        Carpe diem, seize the day

When past is gone, there's no turning back,
What lies ahead is dark and black -

Songs unsung and poems unwritten.

This Quadrille (44 word poem) shared with those poets turning up again after vacation over at DVerse Poets Pub.

  1. Your memento mori maze resonated with me, Chris, and it’s not easy to watch the end unfolding. We can only mourn those unsung songs and unwritten poems.

  2. Chris, I read this a few times, to make sure the carpe diem was for the now instead of what the past was. I see where being in this place would be feeling trapped. Your last line made me think of Glenn Buttkus :(

  3. Chris the circular maze instantly communicates life's journey, while the poem adds layered introspection 🙌

  5. Yes....the path behind us is gone....never to return. Curves ahead, twists and turns....but there it is. Shorter for many of us than what we've already journeyed on....but there it is to explore as we can.

  6. Hmm, at first this seemed gloomy, but then I realised the songs and poems to come are only dark because not yet known – which can be exciting.

  7. Hopefully there’s a little bit of light somewhere.

  9. Chris, this piece has a haunting rhythm that pulls me into its spiral. I feel the tension between urgency and inevitability so vividly.

    Much love,
