Street BJ

Street BJ

Look, this is nuts, I know
but change is brewing
after the economic crunch
of the past few years.

Making your way
through the urban bourbon streets
on some half-baked quest
for dastardly mash
and Miz Jelena’s Sweet Potato Pie;
you are more likely to
end up with
your coffee coffee buzzbuzzbuzz
saying
goodbye yellow brick road
to the
sugar plum, wavy gravy
street people that abide
on the cool Britannia
side of life.

On the streets,
it's hard to imagine whirled peace
like a Sufi spinning in ecstasy,
but making your own way
through the urban jumble
of sights, sounds and smells
deserves a reward, even if only...

... an ice cream cone.

------

A bit of whimsy prompted by some names of Ben & Jerry Ice Cream flavors, shared with those cone lickers over at DVerse Poets.

  1. "to the
    sugar plum, wavy gravy
street people" ... I love the Beat vibe of this, rhythmically. Great line break after "the" to prolong the sound.

  2. A whimsy prompt indeed and you've risen to the occasion building a tall tall cone with so many flavors included! You definitely had fun with this one. LOVE the ending....made me smile

  5. silly but serious. My favorite cone-licking bit was:
"it's hard to imagine whirled peace
like a Sufi spinning in ecstasy,"

  6. That was great! It had a great message, too.
And reading yours, I have just realised I actually forgot a flavour. Oh well... c'est la vie.

    1. Hi Gillena - not to split hairs or anything, but the prompt said the poems was not to be ABOUT ice cream, it didn't say that ice cream could not be mentioned at all. :-) Love ya back!
