Poetry is Just Better

Poetry is Just Better

Better to use my time writing poems.
Poems never dissemble, never protest.
Protest poems are even more so,
So I'll write them until forced to rest.

A poet can say almost anything at all.
All one needs to do is couch it in verse.
Verse speaks to a different part of the mind,
mind you, take care not to make things worse.

Whether free verse or rhyme, doggerel or form,
Form defines how my words dig down deep.
Deep in the caveman part of your self,
self rhymes by choice in its sleep.

Arguing wastes time, causes bad feelings to spread.
Spread out over a lifetime it kills.
Kills pointing out the truth, separating the lies,
Lies on the tongue sweeter with poetry's frills.

So take heed of my thoughts, my sing song of words.
Words that add up to more than the sum of each letter.
Letter after letter with something you just have to say,
say it in rhyming quatrains, they're better!

This is a LOOP poem, one in which the last word of each line is the first word of the next, prompted as always by those loopy scribblers over at DVerse Poets!

  2. Perfection in five stanzas. I just wasn't up for the sing-song phase today, but you rang the bell several times; seemingly effortlessly .Rocked the socks off the prompt.

  5. I can totally relate to these lines "Poems never dissemble, never protest.
Protest poems are even more so,
So I'll write them until forced to rest."

  6. Well-chosen banner to set the tone. You chose your words with care and the ideas flowed seamlessly. I also like the way you began and ended your poem with the same word.

  7. Excellent use of this form, Chris! I really loved the fourth one.
